BACKGROUND
Risk analysis process is a systematic framework based on the scientific approach to perform, manage and communicate risk, and comprises of three inter-related components: risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication. It provides scientific information and evidence to the regulators and policymakers to make effective and transparent decisions on food safety. It is accepted internationally as the best way to develop food safety standards and systems for improvement of food safety.
In ASEAN, the recent establishment of ASEAN Risk Assessment Centre for Food Safety (ARAC) serves as a platform to gather expertise from local and international experts on risk assessment. ARAC, together with national food safety and risk assessment agencies, and ASEAN risk management sectoral bodies on food such as ASEAN Health Cluster 4: Ensuring Food Safety and the Prepared Foodstuff Product Working Group (PFPWG) are the backbone of risk analysis in the ASEAN region.
At this half-day seminar, participants will learn from renowned international and regional experts on the concept and framework of risk analysis, current development on Food Safety by ASEAN authority and pertinent case examples on risk analysis of contaminants and food additives of importance to the region.
OBJECTIVES
- To discuss application of risk analysis for food additive and contaminants
- To discuss challenges for risk assessment in ASEAN and how to address it
- To define the role of risk assessor and manager in risk analysis using Codex standard and JECFA
