Editor-in-Chief Role and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of Global Perspectives on Nutrition are to ensure a successful journal launch, provide editorial leadership and strategic stewardship of the journal, and guide the journal's editorial direction in close collaboration with the Managing Editor, the Global Executive Director of ILSI, the Publisher (Oxford University Press), and the editorial team (please note that Global Perspectives on Nutrition is editorially independent from ILSI and does not grant ILSI papers special consideration). In fulfilling these responsibilities, the EIC ensures the journal's content meets the journal's vision, provides value to its readership and authors, and reflects the highest standards of scientific value and integrity. The EIC also ensures journal operations are conducted in accordance with industry standards and best ethical and publishing practices and serves as an ambassador for the journal throughout the research community.
The initial tenure for this position is a 5-year term. The workload will vary, but generally will be 1-2 working days per week, spread out over the course of the week. Launching the journal will require a focused effort on the part of the EIC, but the workload will be much less once the journal is established.
In overseeing the journal's content and operations, the Editor-in-Chief will:
- Collaborate closely with the Managing Editor and the editorial team on the journal's launch and vision, set strategic priorities, and work to leverage the global prestige of the journal and thus authorship.
- Ensure the journal's content is valuable to its readership and generates growth in journal usage, engagement, and submissions.
- Oversee a rigorous, objective, and timely peer review process for all manuscripts.
- Identify key topics in the field and develop a commissioning for special collections and invited papers.
- Serve as the final arbiter for acceptance or rejection of all submitted materials. The associate editors will oversee peer review and provide the EIC with recommendations for each manuscript at the end of that process.
- Maintain high standards quality and ethical practice for scholarly publications.
- Work cooperatively with the Editor-in-Chief of Nutrition Reviews to ensure efficient transfer of articles.
- Address author or reviewer disputes, conflicts of interest, and allegations of misconduct promptly, and confidentially, seeking counsel on serious matters from the Managing Editor and the journal’s Publisher.
- Engage and maintain an active, diverse, and competent Editorial Board.
- Ensure active engagement of the Editorial Board through regular communication and performance reviews.
- Enroll and maintain qualified reviewers with diverse expertise.
- Cooperate with editorial and publishing teams to ensure timely online publication and support marketing initiatives.

- Indexing by major indexers.
- Attainment of a competitive Journal Impact Factor.

Statement of Ownership
Global Perspectives on Nutrition is owned by the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI). The journal, along with ILSI's other journal, Nutrition Reviews, is editorially and financially independent from ILSI and does not grant special consideration to ILSI-related papers.
