This workshop is the second phase of a project to develop confidence in measurement methods for describing release of nanomaterials from materials used in commercial products.

BACKGROUND

The NanoRelease Project is working to develop confidence in measurement methods for describing the release of nanomaterials from solid materials used in commercial products. In Phase 1 of the NanoRelease Project, the Steering Committee selected multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) embedded within polymer matrices as the first nanomaterial to be carried forward into release measurement evaluation and methods development. In Phase 2, three expert task groups prepared detailed White Papers evaluating MWCNTs in polymer composites as used in commercial products.

OBJECTIVE

The 2012 workshop reviewed the results of the expert task group evaluations and provide advice through breakout sessions to the drafting of a State of the Science document and a Methods Development Workplan that will chart the next steps for the project toward development of confidence in measuring release of nanomaterials from commercial applications.
