With the purpose of raising awareness in the countries so that they act proactively and generate actions to strengthen the national systems of control of food safety; Costa Rica proposed and won the unanimous support of the 40th World Conference of FAO, held in Rome, to proclaim the World Day of Food Safety, on June 7 of each year.

The celebration initiative arises, in a context of globalization of markets that has accelerated the process of exchanging fresh and processed foods between countries, which is why it is imperative to take the necessary measures to ensure healthy and safe products in order to safeguard the life of consumers.

Under the slogan "Safe Food at Any Time and Place" World Food Week is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness among the population about the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of good practices of production, preparation, and collection of the food we consume daily.

For this occasion, and as part of the cooperation agreement between both entities, the Risk Analysis and Biotechnology Committee of ILSI Mesoamerica will support with the logistics of the closing activity on June 7 and with the presentation of the projects: "Validation of the control measures to ensure the safety of three Costa Rican artisanal dairy products ".
