San José, Costa Rica

8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)
With the purpose of raising awareness in the countries so that they act proactively and generate actions to strengthen the national systems of control of food safety; Costa Rica proposed and won the unanimous support of the 40th World Conference of FAO, held in Rome, to proclaim the World Day of Food Safety, on June 7 of each year.
The celebration initiative arises, in a context of globalization of markets that has accelerated the process of exchanging fresh and processed foods between countries, which is why it is imperative to take the necessary measures to ensure healthy and safe products in order to safeguard the life of consumers.
Therefore, the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC) decides to carry out the first celebration of the week of safety from November 6 to 10, 2017. For this occasion, and as part of the cooperation agreement between both entities , the Risk Analysis and Biotechnology Committee of ILSI Mesoamerica will support the inauguration activity on November 6 with the presentation of two of its projects:
- Validation of control measures and pathogens reduction steps for the safe production of traditional artisanal dairy products from the Mesoamerican region, by Dr. Jessie Usaga, of CITA-UCR.
- Research Results: Determination of exposure to agrochemicals in the GAM feed of Costa Rica, by Dr. Georgina Gómez, University of Costa Rica and Ing. Ivannia Morera, State Phytosanitary Service.
