Webinar: Bases in food fortification

Webinar: Bases in food fortification
Heredia, Costa Rica
November 16, 2017
9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Crystal Plant Auditorium, FIFCO

Fortification has been defined as the addition of one or more nutrients to a food in order to improve its quality for the people who consume it, in general in order to reduce or control a lack of nutrients. This strategy can be applied in nations or communities where there is a problem or risks of nutrient deficiency.

In some cases, fortification may be the easiest, most economical and useful procedure to reduce a deficiency problem, therefore, it is necessary to know its entire fortification procedure, to understand the internal processes carried out by companies.

Therefore, the Nutrition and Food Technology Committee considered it necessary and interesting to have a conference / workshop where these procedures are explored, for this reason, the company DSM Nutritional Products (industrial partner of ILSI Mesoamerica) was asked for their collaboration as experts on the subject.

In this first training session we will have the remote participation of Eng. Héctor Cori, Scientific Director for Latin America of DSM Nutritional Products. The topics that will be developed will be:

General information about vitamins:

  • Bioavailability
  • Equivalences (for example Beta carotene to Vitamin A)
  • Stability
  • Security
  • Micronutrient deficiencies and Emerging Nutrients
