En atención a la recomendación del comité de expertos FAO/OMS/UNU, 2004, un grupo de éstos investigadores, se organizaron para llevar a cabo la actualización 2012 de los valores de referencia de energía y nutrientes en Venezuela. La sugerencia del comité a los países, orienta la revisión de las recomendaciones nutricionales con la nueva metodología de cálculo del gasto energético de individuos y la ingesta mínima de calorías, que debería consumir una persona para mantener un adecuado estado de salud físico y mental.
