About the event

The Microplastics Initiative Community of Practice is preparing a webinar series for 2025 centered around four key focus areas: Analytics, Exposure, Biomonitoring, and Health Impact.

This first webinar will focus on analytical methods for detecting and quantifying microplastics in food, with an emphasis on spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR, Raman microscopy and mass-based (Pyrolsis-GC/MS).

Webinar title: Analytical Methods for Detecting and Quantifying Microplastics in Food: Spectroscopic Techniques and Machine Learning Applications

Speaker: Dr. Dieter Fischer (Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden, DE) will discuss the application of automated analytical methods, enhanced by machine learning algorithms, to identify and quantify microplastic particles. Drawing from his work on the MICROPLEXFOOD CORNET project, he will cover the development of SOPs and analytical methods specifically designed for investigating packaging, process lines, beverages, soluble and complex food samples.
