Integral well-being is a state that depends on the context and the situation, which includes basic aspects for a good life: freedom and choice, health and bodily well-being, good social relations, security, and peace of mind. Comprehensive well-being is a concept related to the good state of individuals or groups.

Depressive states in the Costa Rican population increased by 50% since the start of the pandemic last March. Likewise, resilience and other coping mechanisms are affected in people between 15 and 80 years of age, according to a study by the State Distance University (UNED) and the National University (UNA).

Regarding the effects of COVID-19 in the community, the population perceives a strong impact, especially for those who have lost their jobs or face a reduction in working hours and domestic work overload, especially for women.

These results are part of the research “Mental health and relations with the environment in times of COVID-19, developed by the UNED and the UNA, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and experts from Spain. The study was endorsed by the National Council for Health Research (CONIS).
